Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points

What is HACCP?

Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, simply referred to as HACCP, is a systematic approach to ensure food safety against biological, chemical and physical hazards during production processes. It guards against processes that can make the end product unsafe for consumption. The HACCP system also offers measures to reduce the risks to a safe level and can be used at all stages of a food chain right from food production to distribution. The US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulate the HACCP programs for juice, meat, seafood, dairy, etc. The USDA has created 4 different Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points plans for these food groups.

HACCP outlines good processes for organisations in the food and agriculture sector by identifying hazards and put controls in place to manage them. The HACCP plans meet the requirements of Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) – established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UN) to bring uniformity in international food standards, guidelines and codes of practice to ensure fair trade. As an organisation in the food industry, HACCP certification can be key to your business, and especially so when you want to engage in international trade.

We, at Globus Certifications, can help your company get HACCP certificate.

Benefits of HACCP

Accredited HACCP certification offers significant benefits

Accredited HACCP certification offers significant benefits. Some of them have been mentioned here:
• Happy Customers: Bad quality products or frequent recalls of products by food companies can not only create negative press for the product as well as the company but also make customers unhappy. This is why it is important for organisations to focus on food safety and ensure that the end product is of high quality and fit for consumption.

• Fewer Losses: Any problems with the food quality at the distribution stage or any other stage means the organisation suffers losses. By having a food safety system in place, businesses can reduce risks to food safety and minimise losses. This can have a strong impact on the finances of a company.

• Increased Credibility: HACCP is an internationally recognised standard that provides guidelines for reducing food hazards. By following these guidelines, you get a competitive advantage in the market and builds credibility since it shows your customers and other stakeholders that your organisation maintains high standards when it comes to product quality.

• Ease of Taking Part in International Trade: For organisations that want to take part in international trade, an internationally recognised certification like HACCP eliminates the need for location-specific certifications or registrations. This expedites the process of entering new markets and also makes it easy to run the business in multiple locations across the globe. HACCP certification is mandatory for food companies doing business in the US.

If you are an organisation in the food and agriculture industry, you need to make sure that you implement an internationally recognised food safety system and thereby convey a degree of confidence to your customers.
